![]() ![]() The most recent game release, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, has received numerous “Best of” nominations and awards. The game’s success has led to a global franchise encompassing movies, merchandise, comic books and now, a stylish animated series. In the 25 years since its launch, the Tomb Raider video game series has sold over 81 million copies and garnered a treasure chest worth of awards. Ncuti Gatwa ( Sex Education) will star in the second season as Eshu, a new character to the franchise. Hayley Atwell (Marvel’s Captain America and Avengers films) stars as Lara Croft, and is joined by Earl Baylon ( Trese, Tekken: Bloodline) as Jonah Maiava, and Allen Maldonado ( Maya and the Three) as Zip. Netflix has now announced that the series has been renewed for a second season. 25 years after her first game appeared, Lara continues to explore new territory. Jake also posted storyboards on his webpage where the director is mentioned to be Ben Wheatley, so those are from an earlier draft before Misha Green's involvement.Lara Croft, one of the video game world’s most iconic adventurers, makes her anime debut later this year in the upcoming Tomb Raider series, which picks up after the events of the incredibly successful video-game reboot trilogy of the same name. In August, 30 2022, the story board artist Jake Lunt Davies started posting the story boards from the cancelled movies over several months on his Twitter. The previously-reported sequel was not made and the rights for future Tomb Raider movies have been freed up for other studios to bid on. On July 31, 2022, The Verge reported that MGM waited too long to create a sequel to the 2018 movie. In May 2021 Amazon bought MGM for 8.45 billion dollars, and with it the rights to the Tomb Raider movie licences. The draft has a title Tomb Raider: Obsidian, but Misha Green said the title hasn't been approved yet. On 15th of May 2021, Misha Green shared an image of finished first draft on twitter. via the studio's distribution and marketing joint venture United Artists Releasing, and internationally through Warner Bros. ![]() The film will be released theatrically in the U.S. ![]() In January 2021, Misha Green signed to replace Jump and Wheatley as writer and director. Additionally, it has been removed from the studio's release schedule. In order to deliver a more faithful adaptation of the games' story, the movie will allegedly be embracing more of the supernatural elements and tones that gamers have connected with recently, however, production has now been delayed until 2021 with filming now taking place in England and South Africa due to the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. It was later announced that filming would start in early 2020 in England later still, according to Geek Vibes Nation, principal photography was scheduled to start in April with filming taking place across a number of countries including England, South Africa, Finland and China. That same month, it was confirmed that Wheatley's long-time cinematographer, Laurie Rose, will also work on the film. In September 2019, Ben Wheatley, Jump's husband, signed on to direct the sequel, with a planned Marelease date with Warner Bros. Furthermore, in April 2019, Amy Jump was hired to write a script for a potential sequel, with Vikander attached. Prior to the release of Tomb Raider movie, Alicia Vikander expressed interest in returning as Lara Croft for a second film, stating that "If there's an audience out there for it, then I would love to". ![]()
